The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is taking four sell-out films on the road.

With the support of the Victorian State Government, the MIFF Travelling Film Festival will visit five regional centres, including Mildura with a series of weekend programs showcasing both Australian and International highlights from this year’s festival.

Councillor for Arts and Culture Jill Joslyn said it was wonderful the festival was coming back to our region again this year with four sell-out films showing at Mildura Arts Centre and Deakin Cinema Complex.

“The regional travelling festival re-launched in Mildura in 2014 after a six year absence and will be back once again this month with family friendly matinees, Saturday night specials and a breathtaking story of love, hope and survival in Putuparri and the Rainmakers,” Cr Joslyn said.

Putuparri and The Rainmakers recently won best film at the 2015 Cinefestoz festival. Directed by Melbourne film maker Nicole Ma, the film is based on Tom “Putuparri” Lawford’s battle with his past, present and future as a leader of his people. Putuparri and the Rainmakers explores one man’s struggle to reconnect with his ancestral lands, learn about his traditional culture and ultimately fulfil his destiny.

The film director, Nicole Ma will be attending the screening of Putuparri and The Rainmakers in Mildura and a Q & A with the audience will follow the film screening.

Song of the Sea will also be shown at Mildura Arts Centre as part of the MIFF Traveling Film Festival. Likely to appeal to family audiences, it is a visually enchanting animation directed by Academy Award nominee Tomm Moore, and was this year’s winner of the festival’s People Choice Awards.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to watch films that often don’t get released in regional areas, Cr Joslyn said.

“I encourage locals to make the most of it and book their tickets now to join us to enjoy a weekend at the movies.”
