Merbein community looks forward to the future
Published on 20 March 2015
Merbein residents are invited to look to the future and learn more about a four year plan that outlines the way forward for their community’s development.
The Merbein Community Plan 2014-2019 was finalised last year, following input from more than 500 locals. It sets out the objectives the community has identified which will aim to make Merbein a wonderful place to live, work and play.
Key themes within the plan include community connectedness, events, sport and recreation, infrastructure, environment and safety and access.
Community Development and Safety Portfolio Councillor Ali Cupper said this was the second Community Plan Merbein residents had put together, with the first completed in 2008.
“The Community Planning process allows the public to prioritise projects and initiatives that matter most to them,” Cr Cupper said.
“Developing a Community Plan was is a way for communities to self assess their town and to set goals for the future, and I congratulate the Merbein community, and in particular the Merbein Development Association, who have actively and enthusiastically worked to develop their town’s Plan.”
Some of the objectives listed in the 2014-2019 Merbein Community Plan include developing a splash area at the Merbein Swimming Pool, looking at options for future use of the vacant Merbein school site and implementing tree planting and weed removal programs in the township.
Merbein residents are invited to hear more about the Merbein Community Plan and how they can get involved in rolling it out at community sessions being held next week. Sessions will be held at the Merbein Community hub from 5:30pm to 6:30pm on Monday 23 March and Wednesday 25 March. An information stand will also be set up outside Fishers IGA Merbein on Thursday 25 March from 10am to 1pm.
