Mildura will soon host country Victoria’s most prestigious swimming championships, attracting thousands of visitors and some of the very best athletes in regional Australia.

The 2025 Victorian Long Course Country Swimming Championships will be held over three days in January on the following days:

  • Saturday January 18: 9am – 6pm
  • Sunday January 19:  9am – 6pm
  • Monday January 20: 9am – 6pm.

Based at the Mildura Waves Aquatic and Leisure Centre outdoor pool, the three-day event is expected to generate close to $1million for the local economy due to the influx of visiting athletes and supporters.

Mayor Helen Healy said Mildura Rural City Council was proud to support the event through the Events Funding and Support Grants program.

“This event is seen as the crown jewel of the annual swimming calendar for country Victorian swimmers,” Cr Healy said.

“About 2,000 people are expected to attend, 1,700 of whom are estimated to be from outside our region.

“This will offer an instant boost for a whole raft of local businesses, including those in the hospitality, retail and accommodation sectors.

“It’s also likely to offer longer-term benefits as there may be visitors new to our region who will get their first taste of what our municipality has to offer. This could generate return visits for many years to come.

“It’s also a prime example of how partnering with event organisers through our Events Funding and Support Grant program can benefit the entire community.”

About 800 swimmers will compete in 108 events over the three-day championships.
