New look School Holiday program unveiled
Published on 02 June 2016
Mildura Rural City Council’s June School Holiday program is once again offering a wide variety of activities for 12 to 16 year olds, with some new experiences and old favourites making the list.
One of Council’s most popular youth programs, the low cost, fun activities will start on Monday 27 June and runs for two weeks. Young people along the Mallee Track are also being encouraged to join in with a bus running from Ouyen on Thursday 30 June and Tuesday 5 July.
Community Wellbeing and Services Councillor Sharyon Peart said the school holidays were the perfect time for young people to try something new and she encouraged local families to make the most of the activities on offer.
Activities include much loved favourites such as Laserforce, the House of Bounce and Ten Pin Bowling, with some brand new experiences added to the program.
“These are great, supervised activities with something for everyone,” Cr Peart said. “Most of the activities run from 9am until 2pm each day and in most cases, lunch is provided as well.
“This year we have some new activities, a full day trip to Mungo National Park, a great way to explore and learn about our regions amazing cultural heritage and landscape. If you prefer a more active option, why not come along to our rugby league come and try day.
“We’ve got fishing, cooking, basketball and golf all on the program. And for those looking for a little less physical activity, there’s also a movie day, art classes and cooking and nail art sessions,” Cr Peart said.
“When you consider what’s planned, there really is no excuse for our young people to be bored during the holidays. We hope some of our young people from Ouyen and along the Mallee Track can also get involved and jump on the bus in Ouyen for a day trip to Mildura.
“The youth services team put so much effort into creating a program that offers an array of fun activities relevant to young people with different interests and passions.”
Many of the activities are free however some do have a minimal cost of $15 which is subsidised by Council.
Registrations are open now and close on Thursday 23 June, with participants urged to get in quick as some activities have limited spaces.
