New palm tree planting this Sunday
Published on 13 September 2016
An established palm will be planted in the roundabout at the intersection of Madden Avenue and Eighth Street Mildura this Sunday, replacing the one which was removed in May.
Three palms were originally planted in April 2014 during the installation of the new roundabout, and while two of the palms became established and are now thriving, a third did not survived transplantation.
Environmental Sustainability Councillor Judi Harris said the new Washingtonia Robusta or Skyduster palm has been sourced from a local property and is in keeping with the CBD design guidelines.
“We have Skyduster palms in most of the CBD roundabouts and they look fantastic,” Cr Harris said. “They really thrive in our hot dry climate and are perfect for the centre plantations as they don’t require a lot of water or maintenance.”
The intersection at Madden Avenue and Eighth Street will be completely closed to traffic from 7:30am until midday on Sunday 18 September while work is completed.
Further details about the road closure are available in Council’s Public Notices at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Public-Notices or by contacting Council on (03) 5018 8100.
