New reminder system for library members
Published on 06 November 2015
Mildura Rural City Council’s 22,000 library members can now sign up to receive SMS or email notifications, reminding them of the due date to return borrowed items.
The new service will give customers instant reminder messages when an item is about to fall due, reducing the risk of receiving overdue fines.
Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said this new option will ensure library users who register for reminders are prompted before their loans fall due and will also reduce costs associated with the current paper based, mailing system.
“Library patrons have been asking for a reminder system they can access where ever they are,” Cr Joslyn said.
“We’re part of the Swift library consortium which allows borrowers to return and borrow resources from over 100 libraries across Victoria. With the SMS or email reminder, it won’t matter where you are, you’ll be able to pop into a library and either return or renew your resources.
“It’s a simple process to register for the new reminder system – just visit your local branch with your mobile phone or email details and staff will sign you up.”
Membership to Council libraries is free and gives users access to a wide range of resources including books, magazines, DVD’s, CD’s, internet access and online resources, as well as activities for all ages and special appearances by guest authors.
Library members are encouraged to sign up for SMS and email reminders at their nearest library branch or calling (03) 5018 8350 for more information.
