Ouyen Pool temporary closure
Published on 08 March 2016
We can confirm the Ouyen pool was closed last Friday following a second non-compliant water test result for the facility and will remain closed for at least another 10 days.
As part of the standard process to ensure public safety, Council regularly undertakes testing (chemical and microbiological) at all of our pools. Chemical testing results are obtained instantaneously but microbiological results can only be determined by sending water samples to a Melbourne based laboratory for testing.
All recent chemical test results have returned compliant results, however two recent microbiological tests have returned non-complaint results. This means the water quality of the pool is not within parameters set out by the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009.
These Regulations state that if a second non-compliant test result is received, the facility is to be closed and a prescribed water treatment program (in accordance with the Regulations) must be undertaken.
This prescribed treatment program commenced on Friday afternoon and we also began maintenance checks on the plant and equipment on site.
The treatment program requires retesting of the water at certain intervals and at this stage, we anticipate the facility will remain closed until at least Friday 18 March while the sampling and testing processes are completed.
We regret the inconvenience the pool closure is causing. We trust patrons appreciate our need to ensure public safety and thank the community for their patience in this matter as we work to reopen the facility as soon as possible.
