Park for Play closed on Thursday 6 August

Mildura’s Park for Play playground and the adjacent car park will be closed to the public on Thursday 6 August 2015 from 8am until 4pm. 

Mildura Rural City Council is closing the site to ensure public safety while earthworks are undertaken near the Eleventh Street facility.

Heavy machinery will be operating to remove some soil near Park for Play.  The soil contains a small amount of non-friable, bonded asbestos lined pipe. The site is currently sealed and secure, with Council staff monitoring it until the clean-up can be completed. Council has informed the Environment Protection Authority about the soil.

Independent experts have advised that the risk to residents is very low, however Council has decided to take extra precautions and will close the immediate area around the site when the soil is removed. This will include the route that work crews will use through the Park for Play car park. 

While this action is precautionary, the area will be busy with numerous trucks, staff and relevant authorities on site to monitor the removal. Therefore Council requests that people avoid the area between 8am and 4pm on Thursday 6 August 2015.
