The call is out to all budding bands, solo artists and musicians wanting to break into the music industry, with nominations for the 2016 FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands competition now open.

The competition is celebrating 20 years of uncovering new artists this year, with competitors once again having the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of their local community, as well as having the chance to win their way to the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final in March next year.

Mildura Rural City Council’s Community Wellbeing and Services portfolio Councillor Sharyon Peart commended the FReeZA youth development program for its support of this great event.

“FReeZA provides opportunities for young Victorians between the ages of 12 and 25 to access music and cultural events safely and with supervision,” Cr Peart explained.

“From duets and solo artists, to bands and hip-hop groups through to acoustic and electronic performers, the Push Start Battle of the Bands competition is a great launching pad for aspiring musicians and singers in our community.

“Over the past few years we’ve had many local winners making it to the state finals, which is a real tribute to the quality of musicians we are producing locally.”

This year’s event will be held at the Mildura Senior College on Friday 7 August from 7pm with all welcome to support the artists.

In order to register, performers must live, work or go to school in the municipality with applications closing at 4pm on 24 July 2015.
