Rate notices are on their way
Published on 22 July 2019
Mildura Rural City Council ratepayers should have started receiving their 2019/2020 rate notices in the mail.
Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence said just over half of the annual revenue needed for Council to operate is collected through rates and is used to provide more than 100 vital Council services, facilities and programs for the more than 50,000 residents in our community.
“Balancing the need to provide the services and facilities our community needs and deserves without impacting on residents’ ability to pay is a difficult balance to strike,” Cr Clemence said.
“It’s a balance we continually strive for and I believe we’ve once again been able to achieve this.”
Residents who have relocated in the past 12 months are reminded to ensure their contact details are up-to-date.
Property-owners who know they should be receiving a rate notice and haven’t are asked to let Council staff know, ensuring as much time as possible to pay their rates.
An information flyer sent out with rate notices explains how rates are calculated and the different ways people can pay their rates.
Council rates can be paid upfront in one lump sum or in four instalments.
Full upfront payments must be made by 17 February 2020. People using the instalment option must make their first instalment payment by Monday, 30 September 2019.
Rates can be paid in person at any of Council’s Service Centres, online and in person at Australia Post, via BPAY, mail or via Centrepay for those receiving Centrelink payments.
Ratepayers can also register with eNotices to receive future rates notices via email. Details for registration can be found on the reverse side of residents’ payment slips. Rates can also be paid via BPAY View, quoting the biller code and reference number located on the front of payment slips.
Direct debit payments can be organised by visiting Council’s website at www.mildura.vic.gov.au and filling in a direct debit request form.
Anyone experiencing financial difficulties or having trouble making rates payments should contact Council as soon as possible to discuss their circumstances and make alternative arrangements.
