There’ll be no excuse for bored young people over the next school holidays with Mildura Rural City Council offering a range of activities for secondary school aged students.

Low cost, fun programs have been carefully planned by Council’s Youth Services team, with something for everyone on each day of the two-week break.

Community Wellbeing and Services portfolio Councillor Sharyon Peart said the school holidays were the perfect time for secondary school-aged young people to try something new and she encouraged local families to make the most of the activities on offer.

“Activities planned once again try to cater for all sorts of different interests,” Cr Peart said.  “We’ve got Masterchef-inspired cooking, indoor sports and Laserforce, fishing, art and even a workshop to show you how to build your own webpage.

“And of course, there’s the huge pool party at Mildura Waves which is becoming a favourite.”

Cr Sharyon Peart said activities cost no more than $15 per activity and some are free, with a trip as far afield as Mungo National Park also on the agenda to help celebrate NAIDOC Week.  For the first time, there will also be a bus running from Ouyen on Wednesday 8 July, for the Mallee based students.

“When you consider the planned activities, there really is no excuse for young people in our region to be bored during the holiday period,” Cr Peart said.

“The youth services team put so much effort into creating a program that offers an array of activities relevant to young people with different interests and passions.”

Most activities also include lunch and snacks, with the program funded by Council and the Victorian Government’s Engage! Program.  The Engage! Program provides opportunities for young people to participate in skill and knowledge building activities, while strengthening their networks with their peers and the community.

Bookings for each activity are essential.  Further information and the full program is available online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/youth or by contacting Youth Services on 03 5018 8280 or youthservices@mildura.vic.gov.au
