Sharing the magic of opera with locals
Published on 17 October 2016
Mildura Arts Centre is delighted to be partnering with Victorian Opera to bring the heart warming and joyous community opera The Pied Piper to Mildura on Thursday 20 October. Robert Browning’s classic tale is transported to outback Australia in this new work by Richard Mills.
Starring a cast of Australia’s brightest young singers and the Victorian Opera Chamber Orchestra, the production features a chorus made of our local community members as the children, rats and townsfolk of Hamelin.
“Adults and young people have been rehearsing since July with Victorian Opera and their commitment and dedication will be realised in the upcoming production of The Pied Piper. Opportunities like these are few and far between in remote regions,” said General Manager Community Martin Hawson.
“Mildura Arts Centre’s continued focus on creating flourishing partnerships with leading arts organisations is resulting in exciting opportunities for our community to engage in the arts and seeing positive outcomes for people living in a remote regional city like Mildura.”
While Victorian Opera are visiting Mildura, they will also perform two near sell out performances of the iconic story Cinderella to over 800 school children and present a concert of beautiful music and much loved operatic masterpieces in An Evening with Victorian Opera at the Roxy Theatre in Ouyen on Friday evening.
The Pied Piper and Cinderella build on the success of Victorian Opera’s previous touring productions, The Magic Pudding – the Opera (2013) and Remembrance (2015) and reflects the company’s commitment to inspiring all Victorians of all ages through the magic of opera.
