Sonja Hodge’s artwork to adorn mobile table tennis table

Local Indigenous artist Sonja Hodge will have her artwork transferred on to a mobile outdoor table tennis table after she won an innovative art competition last night.
Judges selected Sonja’s bold black and white design from 14 excellent entries in a competition ran by Council and Mildura City Heart as part of the Langtree Mall 7 Day Makeover. The artwork will now be transposed on to one of two mobile table tennis tables built especially to be used as part of the makeover.
Anna Sullivan, Deputy Chair Mildura City Heart, Julie Chambers, Owner/Director The Art Vault, Antonette Zema, Manager Mildura Arts Centre and 7 Day Makeover facilitator David Engwicht from Creative Communities had the tough task of choosing the winner.
“The competition was tough and all the artists that entered are to be congratulated on the great work they submitted,” David said.
“Sonja’s design was very bold and ultimately we felt it would best translate in to an eye-catching table tennis table.”
Sonja said she was looking forward to seeing her artwork immortalised on to the table tennis table and going on show this weekend.
“I am really glad my design was chosen to be displayed on the table tennis table. Maybe when it is set up in the Mall I will pop over and have a game during my lunch break.”
The mobile table tennis table will be used as part of the 7 Day Makeover and be set up in the Langtree Mall this weekend. It will be unveiled at the community celebration which kicks off at 2pm this Sunday 7 June.
Council staff constructed two table tennis tables using materials donated by the Rotary Club of Mildura Deakin. One table will feature the Rotary Club of Mildura Deakin’s emblem and the other will sport Sonja’s winning design.
