Survey shows Council’s overall performance and direction is on the up

Published on 22 June 2015

Locals are more satisfied with Mildura Rural City Council’s overall performance this year compared to twelve months ago according to results of an independent survey.

Council scored 57 for overall performance, up from 55 last year, and 54 for overall direction, up from 48, in the 2015 Annual Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey, which was conducted by the state government earlier this year.

Mayor Glenn Milne said these results were particularly pleasing considering they showed improvements on scores from last year’s survey.

“This survey is one of the important measures we can use to gauge how Council is tracking as an organisation,” he said.

“We’re very pleased that the community feels our overall performance and overall Council direction has improved from last year.”

As part of the survey, respondents also rated Mildura Rural City Council’s performance in customer service, community consultation, advocacy, decision making and sealed local roads.

All but one of these areas scored either higher or the same as last year.

“We scored 72 for customer service, which is something we should be very proud of. Council is essentially a service organisation, providing services to residents and ratepayers so it is really pleasing that the community values the efforts our staff go to, to provide excellent service.”

“We’ve dropped two points in the area of advocacy, so this is something we will look at as a Council and as an organisation to see how and where we can try and improve this.”

The survey, which is also undertaken by 68 other Councils across the state provides Council with an opportunity to compare how it is tracking against other local government organisations.

The annual independent survey involved random telephone interviews of residents aged over 18 in our local government area.  400 interviews were completed between 1 February and 30 March 2015.

All Victorian Councils participating in the survey are able to compare their performance against other local governments in seven key areas. Mildura’s results are outlined below:

“Council serves a population of about 51,000 people across an area of 22,000 square kilometers and we strive to provide the best service we can.”

A report detailing results of the 2015 Annual Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey will be considered at this week’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
