Take in Australia’s iconic movie moments at Starstruck: On Location
Published on 15 October 2019
Sunraysia residents will be able to celebrate a century of Australian film-making’s biggest and most iconic moments when Starstruck: On Location opens at Mildura Arts Centre this Friday.
The new exhibition will be launched at a special event on the MAC lawns on Friday 18 October starting at 8.30pm with a pop-up outdoor cinema screening of The Dressmaker. The community will be able to view the new exhibition for the first time earlier in the evening during Twilight.
Starstruck: On Location will feature famous Australian actors and iconic films as well as highlighting the lesser-known early years of our nation’s film industry over the past 100 years.
Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said Starstruck: On Location would showcase the most striking images from the Starstruck: Australian Movie Portraits exhibition, previously seen at the National Portrait Gallery and other venues around the country.
“These amazing images not only tell the story of Australian cinema through the faces of our actors, but I’m sure they will stir many memories among audiences of where they were when they took in some of the most iconic movies from the early 20th century through to today,” Cr Modica said.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the lives of aspiring actors in unique digitised Cinesound casting books from 1930s Australia. There are few examples of casting books like this left in the world.
Starstruck: On Location is made possible through the collaboration of the National Portrait Gallery and National Film and Sound Archive, and is supported by exhibition partners Showcase. It’s also supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program, an Australian Government program aiming to improve access to the national collections for all Australians.
This national-calibre exhibition will continue at MAC until Sunday 1 December.
