Take in opera’s favourite Heroes and Villains at MAC

Mildura Arts Centre’s flourishing relationship with Victorian Opera will result in three wonderful operatic performances at Mildura Arts Centre this weekend.
Local audiences will be able to experience an unforgettable evening with opera’s favourite Heroes and Villains on Saturday, 7 October.
From the villainous Don Giovanni to the fearless Tamino and devilishly cunning Barber of Seville, audiences will be able to hear Rossini, Verdi and Mozart with beloved and well-known music from operas such as The Magic Flute, Rigoletto, Turandot and Carmen.
Starring a cast of Australia’s most exciting operatic talent, audiences will be mesmerised by beautiful voices performing opera’s most passionate arias, duets and ensembles alongside a live orchestra.
Mildura Rural City Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said this weekend’s show would also provide a unique opportunity for Sunraysia’s young artists to perform alongside the Victoria Opera performers.
“Over the past few months the Sunraysia Community Choir and students from Nichols Point Primary School have been busy rehearsing and fine tuning their singing voices in preparation for the performance,” Cr Modica said.
“Opportunities like these are few and far between in remote regions, however Mildura Arts Centre’s continued focus on creating prosperous partnerships with leading arts organisations is resulting in exciting opportunities for our community to engage in arts and culture, resulting in positive outcomes for people.”
In addition to the Victorian Opera’s performance on Saturday night, there will be two free performances of the Grimm fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel, for local primary school children. This 50-minute production will be sung in its native German language, with English scene descriptors, featuring beautiful singing and a live orchestra.
This performance is supported by the Victorian Government’s Major Victorian Regional Touring Program.
