Two new parks planned

Published on 08 September 2015

Mildura Rural Council is calling on residents on Dyar Avenue and Oasis Boulevard and Diablo Way to have input into new parks planned for their neighbourhoods.

Two new parks will be established during the next twelve months, one at 95 Dyar Avenue and a second on the corner of Sixteenth Street and Etiwanda Avenue near Diablo Way, with Council looking to find out what sort of play equipment and facilities the residents would like to see included.

Mildura Rural City Council Mayor Glenn Milne said the planned parks will reflect the needs of the residents living nearby.

“Council staff will be setting up information stands on each of the sites and are encouraging the community to come along and let us know their thoughts on park design,” Cr Milne said.

“There will be display boards, drawing equipment and even modelling clay to assist people to communicate their ideas clearly.  It’s a good opportunity for the young people in the area to get involved in the project as well.  Often it’s the kids who use the parks and playgrounds the most and their input is just as important.”

A free BBQ will be available at both locations.

While there will be some budget and design limitations, during this initial creative stage nothing is off limits in terms of what can be proposed.

“Come along and be creative, be imaginative and have some fun,” said Cr Milne. “From what might seem like the craziest of ideas, a little gem of an idea could emerge that will be quite achievable.

“Open green spaces and parklands are an important part of what makes our region such a great place to live and we want to make sure people are able to get active and access the outdoors as much as possible.”

When:  Sunday 13 September from 10am
