Water Play to close for upgrades and maintenance
Published on 22 February 2016
The water play area on the Mildura riverfront will be closed for five days from Monday 29 February while the site undergoes routine maintenance and new infrastructure is installed.
The busy recreation facility, which opened to the public in mid-August 2015 has proven extremely popular with locals and visitors alike.
“The public’s response to the new water play area has been overwhelmingly positive, with use far exceeding our expectations,” Economic Development and Tourism portfolio Councillor John Arnold said today.
“The site hasn’t had any major maintenance since October last year and with the busy Easter holidays not far away, we need to close it down for the week to make sure it’s in tip-top condition.”
Cr Arnold also said that Council will be taking the opportunity to install some more furniture.
“We will be installing three new picnic tables, including one specifically designed to allow wheelchair access.”
Other maintenance works being carried out on the water play area include inspection and cleaning of the underground water storage tanks and filtration systems, modifications to the drainage system and improvements to some of the surface paving in the water concourse.
While not part of the works planned for next week, Council also confirmed a new shade pergola will be installed in the coming months.
Council encouraged residents to keep an eye on its website, social media accounts or to contact Council directly on (03) 5018 8100 for information about water play operational hours.
