Works start on new roundabout at Etiwanda and Sixteenth Street

Road users are being advised of disruptions to traffic at the intersection of Sixteenth Street and Etiwanda Avenue, with construction of a new roundabout due start on Monday 2 February.

The $344,000 Black Spot funded project is expected to take approximately eight weeks and aims to improve safety and general traffic flow at the busy intersection.

Mayor Glenn Milne said Council has received $218,850 from the Federal Government to complete the project with Council contributing the additional funds.

“The roads surrounding the intersection will be under Traffic Management over this time and will include some detours and periods where the intersection will be closed completely,” Cr Milne explained.

“The construction of the roundabout will coincide with some other road works along Etiwanda Avenue and we’re asking motorists to please be patient and to avoid the area if possible.”

Cr Milne said the recently installed roundabout at Sixteenth Street and Benetook Avenue had been well received and that this project is at a smaller scale than those previous works.

“The public has been really great in terms of their support for the installation of several new roundabouts,” Cr Milne said. “This additional roundabout will be a similar design to the one at Walnut Avenue and Sixteenth Street.”

The recent residential growth around Sixteenth Street and Etiwanda has seen an increase in traffic in the area with six crashes resulting in injury and one resulting in serious injury at this site in recent times.

Details about Council road works are published each week in local newspapers and online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/publicnotices
