World-class, full orchestral performance at Mildura Arts Centre

Sunraysia’s classical music lovers are in for a treat later this year with the long-awaited return to Mildura of the prestigious Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra (MSO).
The MSO is Australia’s oldest professional orchestra and will perform at the Mildura Arts Centre on Friday, 29 June.
Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said the performance represented a rare opportunity for Sunraysia residents to enjoy one of the country’s finest orchestras playing in their own city, as well as the unique experience of seeing a full orchestra.
“It’s not every day you get to see a full orchestra perform live in Mildura, particularly an orchestra the calibre of the Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra,” Cr Modica said.
“It will also show the full potential of our new forestage lift.”
Presented in partnership with Mildura Arts Centre, An Evening with the MSO will feature esteemed violinist Kolja Blacher and see the MSO perform a diverse program that includes Haydn Symphony No.83 La Poule, Bernstein Serenade, Beethoven Romance No. 1 and Beethoven Symphony No. 1.
“The diversity of the program should ensure it appeals to a wide range of classical music fans, and it’s also great to see the Bernstein Serenade included, as it will be our chance to share in the worldwide Bernstein at 100 celebrations, which mark the 100th birthday of composer, conductor and cultural ambassador Leonard Bernstein,” Cr Modica said.
MSO’s performance on Friday 29 June will be preceded by a 30-minute pre-show talk.
Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at Mildura Arts Centre and Mildura Visitor Information and Booking Centre.
