You can play a role in increasing access for people with disabilities
Published on 19 December 2016
Want to play a vital role in increasing access for people with disabilities in the municipality? Why not join Mildura Rural City Council’s Disability Access Advisory Committee (DAAC).
DAAC is tasked with establishing a consultative community framework to advise Council on the priority access needs of people with disabilities.
This includes working in partnership with Council to improve access to services, programs and infrastructure for people with disabilities within our municipality.
Council is seeking community-minded individuals and representatives from local organisations to fill three vacancies on the current committee – there are vacancies for:
- two community members
- one service provider
Mildura Rural City Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Ali Cupper encouraged people to get involved.
“Council’s Disability Access Advisory Committee serves a crucial role in ensuring people with a disability in our region are able to access the same services and facilities that most of us take for granted,” Cr Cupper said.
“It’s also a rewarding role for committee members who are able to make a real difference to peoples’ lives.”
The committee meets monthly and membership is for a three-year term.
People with disabilities as well as family members and carers from a range of backgrounds and with varied experiences are encouraged to apply.
DAAC was established in 2001 and has evolved from an advisory committee to now being recognised as an expert resource for Council to address barriers to access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
