Youth Arts award looks to recognise young artists

Entries are now open for the 2015 FReeZA Youth Arts Prize. In its second year, the prize looks to uncover and recognize talented young artists in our region.
Sponsored by the Mildura FReeZA Committee and Arts Mildura, the FReeZA Arts Prize is open to anyone aged between 12 and 25 years of age who live, work or study within the Mildura Rural City Council area.
Arts and Culture portfolio Councillor Jill Joslyn said while the prize is a great motivation, the chance for young artists to exhibit is really exciting.
“Entries in the competition will be shown at an exclusive exhibition opening at the ADFA Building on Deakin Avenue on Wednesday 18 November,” Cr Joslyn said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for artists to share their work with our wider community.”
There are three categories for the prize, Painting and Drawing, Photography and Mixed Media, with separate age groups for each category.
“The prize is designed to give artists lots of flexibility when it comes to the materials and mediums they use. From drawing and painting to installations, print, sculpture and even photography and animation, we’re really giving people the opportunity to be as creative as they like.”
Entries are open now and close at 5pm on Monday 9 November 2015, with entry forms available from Council’s Youth Services team at youthservices@mildura.vic.gov.au, from Council Service Centres and online at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/youth
Winners will be announced at the exhibition opening on Wednesday 18 November 2015.
