Council congratulates the 19 young people nominated for last night’s 2019 Mildura Rural City Council Youth Awards.

More than 100 friends, relatives and supporters of these amazing young people celebrated their achievements at last night’s event.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the awards were a chance to recognise and highlight the work our youth are doing and celebrate the contributions they’re making to the wider community.

“Young people in our municipality give us so much to be proud of through their actions and achievements, which may sometimes go unnoticed aside from those they directly support or impact,” Cr Poole said.

“Our Youth Awards are a chance to make sure the broader community knows how much these special people contribute to our region and the residents within it.

“This not only gives our young people the recognition they deserve but could help inspire others to follow their example.”

This year’s winners are:

Youth Volunteer Award Joint Winners

Jarrod Searle

Cheyenne Cochrane

 Youth Group Award

HomeBase

Youth Carer Award

Lily Bruhn

Youth Artist Award

Loughie Kemp

Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence congratulated this year’s winners.

“Jarrod, Cheyenne, Lily, Loughie and the team behind HomeBase are shining examples of the calibre of young people we’re fortunate to call ‘locals’ in our region,” Cr Clemence said.

“Thank you for all that you’ve done, and continue to do, for our region and those close to you – you’re making a real difference.”

Council’s Youth Awards were first offered six years ago as a way to say thank you to local under-25s who do their bit to support the many events, programs and people in our region and are presented each year in the lead up to Victorian Youth Week.
