Waste services on Extreme and Catastrophic Fire Danger Days
The Fire Danger Rating (FDR) can impact waste and recycling services.
FDRs are forecast using Bureau of Meteorology data and describe the potential level of danger if a bushfire starts.
The higher the fire danger, the more dangerous the conditions and the greater the impact will be if a fire starts.
Extreme Rating
On days of an Extreme Fire Danger Rating, we are prohibited from travelling in areas of Bush Fire Risk, including through national parks and state forests.
On these days, we may not be able to empty kerbside bins in some areas. Areas that may be impacted include:
- Carwarp
- Colignan
- Hattah
- Murrayville
- Nangiloc
- Ouyen
- Underbool
- Walpeup
In these instances, collection services will be rescheduled. We will empty your bins as soon as possible, subject to the Fire Danger Rating.
We will make every effort to notify you about schedule changes, by sending SMS alerts, broadcasting information on local radio and via social media.
Catastrophic Rating
On days of a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating, all our waste or recycling services must stop. This includes:
- No kerbside bin collections
- All Landfills and Transfer Stations are closed
- No street sweeping operations
In these instances, bin collection services will be rescheduled and resume as soon as possible, subject to the Fire Danger Rating.
We will notify you about service changes with alerts on our website, by broadcasting information through local media outlets and via social media.
