Preservation Station
Transfer your precious family photographs, slides, negatives, personal DVDs, videos and documents by creating digital copies at Mildura Rural City Council Libraries Preservation Stations.
Preservation Stations are free to use, with bookings required to secure your session. You will need to bring a USB or portable hard drive to save your files. Libraries do not have storage devices available for purchase.
You can choose to donate copies of your digitised items to the library's local history collection to share with the community and preserve for future generations and researchers.
What you can digitise
You can digitise the following media types at the Mildura Library:
- VHS tapes
- DVDs
- 35mm film negatives
- 35mm slides
- 8mm & Super 8 film
- Audio cassette tapes
- Floppy discs
- Photographs
- Mini DV or DV camera tapes
- CD ROMs
- Memory cards
Smaller preservation pop-ups will be available at our other libraries. You can digitise the following media types:

Before using Preservation Stations, please book a familiarisation session with staff and read conditions of use.
Conditions of use
You must have copyright permission to digitise your items. It is your responsibility to obtain this before using our equipment. Visit the Australian Copyright Council (https://www.copyright.org.au) for factsheets and information.
Mildura Rural City Council Libraries is not responsible for any loss or damage incurred by you as a result of using this service. If your items are fragile or precious, you may prefer to take them to a professional scanning service.
To operate the station, you will need intermediate computer skills. Please bring someone to help if you are not confident.
This is a self-serve station with instructions provided. Library staff can assist in setting up, however they cannot digitise items for you.
You must stay with your items as they are being digitised. For example, a 30-minute cassette will take 30 minutes to digitise.
Library staff have the right to end any session, and/or delete any recording that is deemed inappropriate.

You can book a session at our Preservation Station for up to two hours once a day. Book ahead to ensure availability.
